The edgy entertainment that Suwanee parks have offered up over the years will be on display again the first Saturday in May 2014.

According to city officials, a tournament will be held May 3 (9 a.m.) at the new disc golf course at Suwanee Creek Park. And the ever-popular dog-centered pilgrimage known as Woofstock also will be held May 3 (noon), at Town Center Park.

The disc golf course will be the first at a municipal park in Gwinnett County, and the third overall in the county.

“A disc golf course was one of the suggestions that citizens put forward through the park enhancements survey we did in 2010,” Assistant to the City Manager Jessica Roth said in a news release. “It fits with the passive nature of Suwanee Creek Park yet offers another reason for folks to come use the park.”

Also, on May 4, members of the Gwinnett Disc Golf Organization will hold free clinics for those who want to learn the basics of the sport. The clinics will begin at 1:30 p.m., behind Alder Pavilion at Suwanee Creek Park, 1170 Buford Highway.

A “test play” was held at the course in December. The course will open to public play after this weekend.
