The prominence of the movie industry in Georgia — and more specifically, metro Atlanta — was evident this past year. And that looks like it will extend, with another A-list star reportedly to appear in a movie with Atlanta connections.
- Adam Sandler was seen in several locations in Gwinnett County and Lake Lanier last summer as he filmed “Blended” with Drew Barrymore. The movie is planned for a Memorial Day weekend release in 2014, according to the trailer. (See the attached YouTube video for a scene that was filmed at a Hooters restaurant in Gwinnett County.)
- Jim Carrey was among the cast and crew that filmed scenes from “Dumb and Dumber To” in the Gwinnett Center complex last year.
- Now there’s a media report that Leonardo DiCaprio will star in a film about Richard Jewell, the security guard at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta who became a tragic “person of interest” by law enforcement in connection with the fatal bombing in Centennial Olympic Park. No word on where this movie will be filmed, but it seems that some filming would have to take place in Atlanta for authenticity purposes.
